Karawaci Presbyterian Church

The Word of God for the People of God In Karawaci to Indonesia and the World

Karawaci Presbyterian Church is a member of the GPRII Denomination.

Our church and denomination exists to see Reformed Presbyterian churches planted across Indonesia so that the Word of God is available to all people and the gospel proclaimed to every nation, tribe, people and language.

Our History

Karawaci Presbyterian Church was founded when Dr. Ric Cannada and Dr. Niel Nielson were challenged by Dr. James Riady in 2013 to establish a Reformed and Evangelical Presbyterian congregation to serve the community in Karawaci, including the students at UPH, and also to establish a movement to plant similar congregations in locations all over Indonesia where UPH graduates are serving in schools and hospitals.  The local congregation is called Karawaci Presbyterian Church (KPC).  The movement or synod is called the Presbyterian Reformed Evangelical Church of Indonesia (GPRII).

Some of the early leaders along with Dr. Cannada and Dr. Nielson included Rev. Andrew Matthews and Rev. Mitchell Moore.  Dr. Cannada, Dr, Nielson, and Rev. Moore served as a temporary board of elders (session) for several years before KPC elected its own elders and deacons in 2018. In 2017, Yohanes Halim was called to serve as a pastoral intern and then was ordained as a Teaching Elder and Associate Pastor of KPC in 2018. Rev. Yohanes also serves as the leader in the development and support for the Christ Chapels, the mission churches of GPRII. Along the way KPC also was served as interim pastor for six months by Dr. Ron Scates.  Dr. Craig Sheppard served as pastor of KPC  from August 2019 to September 2021.

A Time Line

2013 KPC is Established

2017 Rev. Yohanes Halim Called

2018 KPC is Particularized

2019 Dr. Craig Shepherd Called

2021 Rev. Richard Brueck Called

Dr. Cannada, Dr. Neilson, Rev. Andrew and Rev. Mitchell establish KPC on the UPH campus to minister to the English speaking community in the area.

Rev. Yohanes was called to serve as the associate pastor to help KPC while also serving the broader denomination. Later Rev. Yohanes was called by the GPRII to turn the Sunday morning UPH chapels into a church serving the Bahasa Indonesian speaking students and community.

Karawaci Presbyterian Church elected its first elders and deacons in 2018 to become self-sustaining as a church. We continue to function as a member of the GPRII.

Dr. Craig Shepherd was called as the senior pastor of KPC while also serving as a Reformed Theological Seminary professor and helping the YPPH with theological training.

Rev. Richard Brueck and his family were called to Indonesia to pastor KPC while Dr. Craig turned his focus on helping RTS and UPH. During this transition the GPRII called Rev. Yohanes to establish the UPH Bahasa Indonesian chapel into a fully functioning church while KPC continued to minister to the English speaking community.
